The Bill Dawson Award

The Bill Dawson Award

The Bill Dawson Award is named in honour of Dr Bill Dawson, a founder member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS).

Presented each year at our PharmSci Conference, this award recognises the finest MSc/BSc student presentation delivered by an Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences Accredited Institution. It stands as a celebration of emerging scientific excellence, honouring students whose work reflects the highest standards of rigour, innovation, and professionalism.

In acknowledging achievements from programmes that meet APS’s exacting accreditation criteria, this award highlights not only outstanding individual accomplishment but also the enduring commitment of accredited institutions to advancing the future of pharmaceutical science.

Dr Bill Dawson

Dr Bill Dawson was a founder member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS).  Bill contributed to the organisation in many capacities – as Chairman, Board Member, and Advisory Board Member and was instrumental in establishing the APS Accreditation Process, continuing his involvement as a valued Member of the Accreditation Team.

A distinguished pharmaceutical scientist throughout his long career, Bill’s dedication, leadership, and vision helped shape the APS into the respected professional community it is today.

Bill was a regular and popular contributor to “Industrial Insights”, an annual event organised by APS to inform students and recent graduates about the varied career paths open to scientists in the pharmaceutical industry. As a successful and renowned industrial scientist himself, Bill was keen to encourage and inspire others to follow him.

Bill sadly passed away in February 2026 and will be deeply missed by colleagues and friends across the pharmaceutical sciences community.
