Professor Jones is Chairman of e-Therapeutics plc. and a Board Member of Ascension Healthcare plc . He is a Visiting Professor at King’s College, London and holds honorary degrees and Gold Medals from 6 universities.

From 1987-94, he was a main Board Director of The Wellcome Foundation, where he was responsible for R&D including the development of AZT, Zovirax, Lamictal, Malarone and other medicines and for 11 years until 2015 a Director of Allergan Inc (CA. USA) He is a founder member of the Geneva-based, Public: Private Partnership, Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and in 2004 was appointed to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Commission on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation and Public Health (C.I.P.I.H). He was for 12 years a member of The UK Government regulatory agency; The Medicines Commission and has also served as an advisor to the Cabinet Office on the Human Genome Project; a Member of the UK Prime Minister’s Task Force on the Competitiveness of the Pharmaceutical Industry (PICTF) and Chair of the Government Advisory Group on Genetics Research.

For 10 years until September 2004, he was Director General of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) a Member of Council of IFPMA and the Board of EFPIA.

In 2005 he was the winner of the SCRIP Life Time Achievement award for his contribution to the pharmaceutical sciences and industry.

In 2016, Prof Jones was elected as a Fellow of The Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) and in 2018 a Fellow of The Learned Society of Wales (FLSW).

He was honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the award of CBE in the 2003 New Year’s Honours List.
