Mentoring Programme 2026
Welcome to the New Scientist Focus Group Mentoring Programme for 2026
Our objective is to facilitate the professional growth and development of new scientists by leveraging
the experience and expertise of seasoned scientists.
We will be targeting New Scientists (mentees) and Experienced Scientists (mentors)
within Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Programme Structure

Programme Duration
The programme will run for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension based on mutual agreement.
Meetings will be held monthly, depending on the availability and needs of the participants.
Mentor and Mentee Selection
Mentor Criteria: At least 5-10 years of experience in the field, strong communication skills, and a willingness to share knowledge.
Mentee Criteria: Recently hired or early-career scientists (either in Industry or Academia) eager to learn and grow. Students should be studying for a PhD or be in the last year of an undergraduate or masters degree.
Matching Process
Compatibility Assessment: A survey will be used to assess interests, goals, and areas of expertise to ensure a good match.
Introduction Session: The mentor and mentee will organize an initial meeting to introduce themselves and set expectations.
Programme Components
Orientation and Training
Resource Materials: A mentee questionnaire, mentee preparation template, session template, and suggested topics for discussion are available to help get you started.
Goal Setting
Initial Meeting: In the first meeting, mentors and mentees should set specific, achievable goals for the mentoring relationship.
Development Plan: Create a personalized development plan outlining the skills and knowledge the mentee aims to acquire.
Regular Meetings
Mentees should prepare an agenda for each meeting to ensure focused and productive discussions. Topics might include career development, networking, and work-life balance.

Programme Support

Program Coordinator
Role: Assign a program coordinator to oversee the program, address any issues, and provide support to participants.
